The Donots successfully began the fourth Red Bull Tourbus season. With Puppetmastaz, the first toy band in the world can be seen throughout Germany on the rolling stage until the end of April.

Usually fans follow their idols throughout the country to be present at their concerts. This is not the case with the Red Bull Tourbus tour; here it’s exactly the opposite: the music groups travel to their fans. Facilitating this is an eight-meter long, old-timer Mercedes bus from the year 1969, fitted with five sleeping cabins and a roof that can be used as a stage anywhere and anytime.

Berlin puppet band

The Tourbus season 2008 was opened by the Donots (‘Whatever Happened To The 80s’), who toured Bavaria and Saarland at the beginning of March. At the moment Puppetmastaz is entertaining audiences (dates: http://www.redbulltourbus.com/tourkalender). The Berlin hip-hop band is represented live by hand puppets and is the first toy band in the world. Present at the first gig in front of the university cafeteria in Cologne were 1,500 fans and the Department for Public Order. The officials wanted to break off the concert that wasn’t specifically approved, but nicely enough, didn’t carry out their assignment until after the first encore. In May the punk rockers from Jupiter Jones will then inhabit the world’s most entertaining bus roof.

Rookies on the road

For the first time rookie bands of all different styles of music can compete for the key to the bus in an online contest. Potential stars of tomorrow are able to upload their own band videos on www.redbulltourbus.com for voting by website visitors. From the public’s three favorites, the jury – consisting of Henning Wehland (H-Blockx), Thees Uhlmann (Tomte) and radio presenter Ken Jebsen – will choose the winning group, which will then be able to use the Red Bull Tourbus for a concert tour.
