Until May 5, the doors are open for applications to Red Bull Music Academy 2008, the creative crash of musical pioneers and up-coming talents from all genres and regions of the world. This year it’s geared to be particularly explosive.
“A safe zone in which you can try everything your heart desires,” is what the Red Bull Music Academy provides, says co-founder Many Ameri. It’s “a life-changing experience, which constantly encourages participants to try out what they wouldn’t normally dare attempt in conventional musical circles.”Encounters between scene greats and newcomers
At the Red Bull Music Academy since 1998 graying jazz pioneers have been learning from young electronic DJs; Finnish HipHop producers from Ecuadorian drum’n’bass mixers – and the other way round. At alternating locations, with different participants and lecturers they all learn something else yet the same thing: new ways of making, feeling and living music.
Host city 2008 Barcelona
This year the encounter of music makers of all genres, gender, homelands and musical tastes will take place in Barcelona, and, due to the 10-year anniversary, will be flanked by a variety of side events – including a huge 10-year celebration show in London. Additionally, local workshops will be offered in almost 50 countries. As is the case every year, the 60 participants will be divided into two academy workshops: this year from September 21 to October 3, and from October 12 to 24.
Apply now
All those interested can apply for the academy until May 5 on www.redbullmusicacademy.com. Those wanting to get onto the list of participants need a filled out application form (downloadable online), a compilation CD or other examples of their musical creations, two recent photos – and a bit of luck: For last year the academy received applications from 82 countries.
