On March 31, 2006, the motorcycles will again be flying in the world’s largest bullring: The Red Bull X-Fighters will be guests for the second time in the Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City and will not only ridicule the force of gravity with their tricks, but will also bring 42,000 fans into a state of ecstasy.
Normally in the Plaza México, the red cloths of the matadors – the muletas – flutter in the air. On March 31, however, something completely different will whirl through the ring in the world’s largest bull fighting arena: In front of 42,000 fans, nine of the world’s best Freestyle Motocrossers will take off with their bikes over ramps in astonishing moves through the air and will showcase tricks there like the Backflip, the Superman Seatgrab and the Kiss of Death. The Favorites…
This will be the eighth time that Freestyle Motocross (FMX) and the bullfight confront one another, and in Mexico City the X-Fighters will be the guests for the second time. Last year’s premiere in the Plaza Mèxico was won by the American, Ronnie Renner, who inspired the crowd with a series of the most difficult tricks and dance interludes.
However, the Red Bull X-Fighters are not only an unusual show with the Corrida atmosphere, but can also be considered one of the most demanding athletic FMX Events. For example, in Mexico City, along with title defender, Ronnie Renner, FMX Superstar Travis Pastrana (the USA) and his biggest current challenger, Nate Adams (the USA) will start. Both have already won the Red Bull X-Fighters in Madrid (Pastrana in 2004 and Adams in 2005) and are just itching to see their names on the winner’s board a second time in front of the 42,000 motor aficionados.
… against the rest of the world
With Mat Rebeaud (CH), Robbie Maddison (AUS) and Eigo Sato (JAP), the Americans will face the strongest athletes from Europe, Australia and Asia. In addition, Dani Torres (ESP) will be one of the most hopeful newcomers starting, and the two riders representing Latin America, Sebastian Mejia (COL) and local matador Johan Nungaray (MEX) will be celebrating their premieres. For the latter, this is actually his second start: In 2005 the Mexican broke his hand when training for the Red Bull X-Fighters, and now in 2006, he finally wants to utilize his home-field advantage.Red Bull X Fighters
